Shani is a multi-award-winning social entrepreneur and disability specialist. Her intersectional activism is inspired by the barriers she has and continues to face as a South Asian woman who experiences disability. Shani has taken change into her own hands and founded and leads numerous organisations to improve representation and challenge social inequality:
1. Diversability, an inclusive platform providing discounts for disabled people, reducing the financial pressures from the unavoidable extra costs of living with a condition or impairment.
2. Asian Woman Festival – reaching over 2 million people in 38 countries.
3. Asian Disability Network – reaching over 100,000 people raising disability awareness for South Asian communities globally.
Alongside working at Virgin Media 02 as Belonging Lead helping to embed inclusion, Shani helps businesses, government, and wider society break barriers and integrate inclusion into their business frameworks. Over the last year:
· Her disability consultancy and speaking client list includes: Google, Facebook, LinkedIn, Deloitte, Spotlight, UKTV, BBC, Channel 4, Mimecast, Metro Bank, Tesco, KFC and many more.
· She has been profiled in; British Vogue, Guardian, Broadcast Magazine, Disability Review Magazine and CEO Magazine and the Office for National Statistics (ONS) Census 2021 TV advert.
As a subject matter expert Shani brings the voices of disabled people and their organisations to policy development for the Government’s Disability Unit and the ONS inclusive taskforce.
Shani serves as the Vice-President of the Asian Business Chamber of Commerce and trustee of Leonard Cheshire. She is an ambassador of Valuable 500, Parallel London and Sikh Assembly.
