Grant Logan is an award-winning entrepreneur and founder of digital platform Ability Today, a Community Interest Company formerly known as Disability Today.
Becoming disabled 20 years ago after a road accident, he started on a new journey, which led to setting up an online social network for wheelchair users called The Wheel Life this was before Facebook existed.
Grant’s mission was to connect the disabled with the news and information that is not always accessible.
In 2020 he launched the Academy for Disabled Journalists in partnership with the NCTJ after the success of the Roving Reporter Programme run for volunteers and now has 80+ students studying for a qualification in journalism. The ADJ is a unique and accessible initiative, empowering today’s students to become the journalists of tomorrow. We now have student alumni working as full-time journalists at the BBC, ITV and Newsquest.
In early 2023 he launched the Academy for Disabled SEO Specialists and is in talks to launch Bookkeeping / CX Training and website development courses later in 2023/2024.
Grant is passionate about inspiring the next generation and is a strong advocate for inclusion. Covid has created a new world of working from home, Grant’s mission is to provide new skills and training for our community to thrive from this, levelling the playing field and creating new pathways to employment.
Now in its fourth year, the Academy for Disabled Students are creating unique accessible online classes where disabled students can learn with their peers in a supportive environment and not feel they are the only disabled person in the room.
Ability Today has recently been a finalist in the Tech4Good Awards for Accessible Education, the National Diversity Awards 2023 Finalist Community Organisation Award for Disability and nominated for the Social Enterprise Awards 2023.
“It is fantastic to be recognised by the Disability Power 100 for the work we are doing in education and employment pathways. Every student’s success is our success.”
