As a Doctor with a Spinal Cord Injury, Elizabeth understands the potential for her unique skillset to be used as a positive tool for change.

Paralysed whilst still a student, she returned to medical school as a full-time wheelchair user keen to continue playing team sport, but found there were no facilities locally. A natural problem solver, Elizabeth’s response was to found Dundee Dragons Wheelchair Sports Club.

Now a charity with over 60 members, the club has grown to offer multiple hours of activity per week over six sporting disciplines, to people of all ages and abilities from across Tayside.

The motto Elizabeth has instilled at Dundee Dragons is #AllAboutAbility and this carries over into all aspects of her work and personal life.

She knows first hand of the physical and psychological benefits that sport brings to the lives of disabled people, and counts it a privilege to see members develop in their confidence, self esteem and wellbeing through their participation at “Dragons”.

So many individuals speak of being inspired by Elizabeth’s focus and determination to effect positive change in the lives of those around her; Scottish Disability Sport awarded Special Recognition of her Services to Disability Sport in Scotland in 2020, the same year she was also awarded the British Empire Medal in the Queen’s Birthday Honours.
