Anna Landre
Disability Justice Activist, Organiser, and Researcher
Politics and Law
Anna is a disability justice and rights practitioner with an impressive track record of getting things done for the disability community. From sparking reforms of the American social care system, to spearheading the development of a wartime evacuation mechanism for disabled people in Ukraine, she is skilled in organizing, activating, and leveraging resources to create change. Much of her work focuses on a phenomenon she calls the disability policy implementation gap, wherein laws fail to translate into real-world impacts on the lives of disabled people.
Anna’s advocacy efforts have been featured in outlets including The New York Times, Washington Post, Forbes, Vogue, and others. Last year, she was ranked as the 4th most influential disabled person in the UK on the Disability Power 100, winning the Politics and Law category.
Anna’s experience as a queer, multiply-disabled wheelchair user informs her belief in the power of solidarity, joy, and collective action to move the disability community forward. She is currently a researcher and PhD candidate at the Global Disability Innovation Hub, where she is exploring the creation of a global DPO map and knowledge-sharing platform. She also works as the Global Research and Response Lead at The Partnership for Inclusive Disaster Strategies, a disability-led disaster response organization that works in crises globally, particularly in the United States, Latin America, the Caribbean, and Ukraine. Anna serves as a Board Member of the National Centre for Accessible Transport (ncat) and Independent Living Alternatives (ILA).
Previously, Anna was twice elected to local government in Washington, DC as an Advisory Neighborhood Commissioner. During her time as Commissioner, she improved pavement accessibility, ended the city’s de-prioritization of disabled people for COVID-19 vaccines, and updated local policy to reflect disability rights frameworks.
Anna received her BS in Foreign Service (Regional and Comparative Studies, Disability Studies) from Georgetown University and MSc in International Development and Humanitarian Emergencies from the London School of Economics. She grew up in Howell, NJ, USA and is a Truman and Marshall Scholar.
In her spare time, she enjoys frequenting art exhibitions, eating Latin American food, reading in parks (London weather permitting!), and taking train journeys.
“I believe in the power of solidarity, joy, and concerted collective action to move the disability community forward. Initiatives like the Disability Power 100 can help us learn from and support one another in our work.”
