Aaron Phipps

MBE PLY

Sportsperson, Professional Speaker at Great Britain Wheelchair Rugby

Sport

Aaron Phipps plays wheelchair rugby for Great Britain. He has been to two Paralympic games and won gold at the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games. GB went from fifth in the world to win the gold medal; he was part of the team that were the first European side to win a medal in wheelchair rugby at any Paralympic games. Prior to his successful career in wheelchair rugby, Aaron completed three London marathons.

Aside from sport, Aaron is a professional speaker delivering keynotes to thousands of people across the globe. His strong messages around resilience, mindset and performance move audiences and create awareness of disability.

Aaron works as a brand ambassador for various companies including Levy (part of the Compass Group) and Snowball, helping them with their disability and inclusion agenda.

Aaron is an ambassador for the Meningitis Research Foundation, raising awareness of the symptoms of meningitis and raising more than £250,000 for the charity.

In 2016 Aaron attempted to climb Mt Kilimanjaro and become the first wheelchair user to reach the summit unaided. When the wheelchair couldn’t cope, he refused to be carried and crawled on his hands and knees for four days to reach the top.

Aaron received honorary doctorates from Winchester and Southampton Solent University for services to sport and was awarded an MBE for services to wheelchair rugby.

Aaron is a proud father of two wonderful young girls.

“My disability was always my superpower, but it took a gold medal for me to realise it.”
