Born with a disability with no arms and short legs life from day one has been overcoming challenges. I have had great support from friends and family who have always pushed me into the person I am today not discouraging me from living life to the fullest. This made me go skiing, sail a tallship and do a 14,000ft skydive. I have also had once in a lifetime opportunities where I carried the Olympic torch in 2012, was part of the first ever Portrait of Britain Book and much more.
Then after giving in from friends and family repeatedly telling me that I should join LinkedIn, I took the step in 2021 to do it. I started posting about my role at Wheels and Wheelchairs (where roller skaters push wheelchair users) to potentially get it seen by professional eyes. I then did a post about me for Disability Pride Month as it was the first time I had heard about it. I went semi viral gaining over 100,000 impressions in a short amount of time. This is when I started to connect with so many amazing individuals seeing the different things out there.
From this I became a model wearing adaptive clothing where I didn’t realise it would get me into British Vogue two years later, start a company with a disability advocate called Seated Perspectives creating videos of places who are doing exceptional accessibility and again be presented with opportunities I never knew existed.
It’s certainly been a bumpy road being part of this community where it feels like I have seen everything but overall it has been worth it. I feel I have a voice that people want to hear so I’m only going to continue to do so and go with the flow as who knows what the future holds.
