Ciara Lawrence works for the UK learning disability charity Mencap as Engagement Lead and she has a learning disability. Ciara has worked for Mencap for 21 years.
She is passionate about seeing people with a learning disability being positively portrayed in the media and has presented at conferences at Channel 4 and ITV and was recently interviewed about her career on GB News. She is also passionate about making sure the voices of people with a learning disability and their families are heard through Mencap’s work. Ciara is a trustee board member for a learning disability charity called the Sunnybank Trust.
In 2019, Ciara had her first ever cervical smear test and made a video about her experience. Because of this, Ciara is now an ambassador for Jo’s Cervical Cancer Trust and she is a Get Lippy campaign ambassador for the gynae cancer awareness charity The Eve Appeal.
Last year Ciara started her own online podcast called Ciara’s Pink Sparkle Podcast on Spotify. Ciara interviews lots of different guests for her podcast like celebrities, journalists and campaigners to help change perceptions and awareness of people with a learning disability. She has interviewed BBC Radio 2 DJ Jo Whiley, Channel 4 news presenter Krishnan Guru-Murthy, Baroness Tanni Grey-Thompson, former Paralympian Anne Wafula-Strike, Disability campaigner Mik Scarlet, singer Chesney Hawkes, Emmerdale actress Samantha Giles, U2’s The Edge and GB News breakfast presenter Stephen Dixon.
In her personal life, Ciara got married nine years ago to her husband, Mark. In any spare time she has, she likes singing and spending time with her family.
