Jordan Allan
Service Quality Director
Education, Public and Third Sector
When I started school, my parents were told by a children’s psychologist that I wouldn’t be able to cope in mainstream school, my parents fought for me to attend and I did.
From 4th year to 6th year my schoolwork was interrupted due to operations and being in hospital for several weeks. I had to do my 4th year exams in hospital which was very hard as I was still in pain.
After school I went to college for a few years I then started a few paid jobs as Admin Assistant. For the past six years I have done a lot of quality checking for support services both in my old job and current job.
I started my current job with Thera Scotland as Service Quality Director where I run the organisation alongside the Managing Director checking the quality of support, we provide to people. I am also involved in any decisions on how the company is run and I have an Executive Assistant who supports me in my role. I am also a Director on another board too.
Having a job benefits my life because it has helped me to lead an ordinary life like everyone else. I now want to help other people with learning disabilities to lead meaningful lives with support like I have had.
The best thing about my job is knowing that what I am doing is for the people we support and for them to be supported to achieve their dreams and aspirations.
“When I left school and I had no belief of finding a job I never once thought at 30 I would be in a leadership role as a paid Director. It is a real honour and privilege to be short listed for the Disability Power 100 2021.”
