Winner of the Evening Standard and TikTok Future Theatre Fund Award 2021 for directing and theatremaking, Jamie Hale is the Artistic Director and Founder of CRIPtic CIC – a hub for d/Deaf and disabled creatives, focused on arts, community, and development. They are directing a showcase of d/Deaf and disabled creatives at the Barbican in 2021, two years after their solo show, NOT DYING, and the first CRIPtic Showcase debuted there. 

They are a prolific writer, with their first poetry book, Shield published in January 2021, about being disabled during the pandemic. Their artistic work has been showcased internationally, and they have a significant media profile, from interviews on Sky News to writing for the Guardian, the Wellcome Collection, and the Huffington Post. In the last four years, they have worked with or performed for Netflix, Channel 4, Sky News, the Barbican Centre, the Tate Modern, the Southbank Centre and more.

Jamie is based in Lewisham, where they chair the Disabled People’s Commission as part of their policy work, developing a report on co-production between the Council and d/Deaf and disabled people, and is co-CEO of Pathfinders Neuromuscular Alliance. They are also studying for a Master’s in Philosophy, Politics, and Economics of Health.
