Elaine Boyd FCCA
Auditor, Accountant, Adaptive sports enthusiast, Aviator and Charity Trustee, Audit Scotland and Cerebral Palsy Scotland
As a schoolgirl Elaine was told to work in a shop, because her cerebral palsy meant ‘that’s all you’ll be able to do’.
Her response was to make it her mission to challenge other people’s perceptions and low expectations.
A qualified accountant, Elaine is an Associate Director at Audit Scotland, the public sector spending watchdog. She joined on a temporary contract after working in the NHS. She now heads the organisation’s quality assurance team, driving and upholding standards for the auditors of more than £40 billion of annual spending. Elaine sits on Audit Scotland’s Disability Confident working group and is vice-chair of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants’ Scotland Committee.
Elaine volunteers for disabled charities to improve awareness of what people can do and share funding opportunities and because keeping active is extremely important to her.
She is Treasurer at Cerebral Palsy Scotland (CPS) and has spoken at CPS conferences, promoting CP management, career development, adaptive sports and wellbeing.
Elaine has been involved with the Riding for the Disabled Association (RDA) for 33 years. She rides independently and was a trustee of Glasgow RDA.
In 2018 Elaine faced her fear of heights and took up flying. Awarded a Flying Scholarship for the Disabled, she received her wings at the 2019 Royal International Air Tattoo. And last year, just before turning 50, she learned to ski and enjoys regular lessons and involvement with Disability Snowsports UK.
Elaine’s motto is: “Don’t be pushed by your problems. Be led by your dreams.”
“Believe in yourself, aim high, focus on solutions and there will be endless opportunities.”
